Eastern State Penitentiary Trip Photos

DUSLA and DUSAA sponsored a trip to the Eastern State Penitentiary in Philadelphia on November 4th, 2013. While there we had a tour of the grounds as well as heard some of the history of the penitentiary from our guide. We also got to see some of the collections in the archive, which included artifacts made by the prisoners and guards.

See some images under the jump! Many thanks to Steve Swetz for the photographs.

A greenhouse on the penitentiary grounds.

Skylights in the penitentiary provided natural light.

A hallway. The doors lead to cells.
The group travels through a riot gate within the halls.

A watchtower on the penitentiary's outer walls.

A collection of shanks and a restraint collected from prisoners and guards, now in the custody of the archive.

More shanks in the collection, along with a crude gun made out of wood.
